First, Deny them the ball, a shooter obviously can't get a shot off if
they don't have the ball. Next, close out quick, don't ever give them
an open look, even if your too far away to block their shot,
always charge over to defend them. Finally, Force them to work on the
defensive end. The more energy they spend on Defense will affect their lift on jumpshots, and if they don't play defense, you have found your
mismatch.
Yes, there are good ways to defend a great shooter, but sometimes it's
much easier said then done. After all, when you’re on, you’re on. The
Houston Xperience (2-0) were defintely on.
In a record game in points (142-127) for both teams, it seemed to come down to who could make the most 3's. The Xperience's Christian Sonier (Guard - Prairie View A&M) was simply dialed in from deep (10-15 3pm), and he finished with a team high 36 points, while Henry Uhegwu (Guard -S.Utah) added 6 threes to finish with 30 points. The Xperience are a brand new team to the UBA, but they weren't playing like it, their talent is self evident, as all their shots were finding the bottom of the net.
The Knight were lead by Geoff Harner, 26 points, who drained his share of threes (6-9 from deep) with 3 steals and 5 assists, and leading scorer of the Knight this season, Pat Perkins, who finished with 30 points (6-14 from three) with 3 steals and 3 assists.
The Austin Knight (4-5) won't have a game this weekend; they look forward to their game on the 26th when they host the Norman Express
(5-2) at the Gus Garcia Recreation Center.
Come support the Knight as they look to regain a even .500 record.
The Knight Help Feed Austin's Unfortunate
By Knight Writer
(AUSTIN, TX)
It's true that Austin is a great place to live, you don't need to read
the magazine articles or polls about what city is what, you simply feel
it when your apart of it. There is something special about this place,
it's vibe is true and unchanging, it's musical origin is legendary, and
it's people about as nice and caring as anywhere in the United States.
The Austin Knight also cares, and their dedication to the community and a sense of greater duty was apparent as they volunteered their time to feed the local homeless population at the Downtown Homeless Shelter. These people come from many walks of life, many have fallen on hard times due to losing their job and not able to find work in a tough competitive economy.
Representing the team during this event was Bryan Lomax, Geoff Harner, Zeke Fisher, and Colt Walsh.
